Publishing Web Pages to stargate.rutgers.edu

This document will help you publish your web pages to SAS web server stargate.rutgers.edu. The procedure assumes that you have already created your web pages either directly in HTML or using software such as Adobe Dreamweaver.

If you have any difficulty following this procedure, please submit a work order.

The requirements for following this procedure are as follows:

  • Basic knowledge of designing web pages
  • SSH Secure Shell Client with SSH Secure File Transfer Client
  • A user account and directory access on web server stargate.rutgers.edu

Publishing Web Pages using SSH Secure Shell:

1. Launch the SSH Secure File Transfer Client utility by clicking “Start” > “Programs” > “SSH Secure Shell” > “Secure File Transfer Client”. (See Figure 1 below).

2. After SSH Secure File Transfer starts, click the icon for “Quick Connect.” (See Figure 2 below).

3. A “Connect to Remote Host” dialog box will appear (see figure 3 below). Enter “stargate.rutgers.edu” in the “Host Name” field and your NetID username in the “User Name” field. Leave the other settings at their defaults and click the “Connect” button.

4. If this is the first time you are connecting to stargate.rutgers.edu via the Secure FTP client, a “Host Identification” dialog box will appear. Click “Yes” to save the host public key to the local database.

5. In the “Enter Password” dialog box, enter your NetID password and click “OK” to continue.

6. In the main window, find the remote folders drop-down box above the right pane (see Figure 4 below). Replace the default selection with the name of the directory on stargate.rutgers.edu where you have access to publish your web page. (If unsure, contact your systems administrator.)

7. Use the file browser pane on the left side of the SSH window to browse to the local or network folder where you saved your web pages.

8. Select all files and subdirectories in your web page folder. Drag them to the right pane of the SSH window to copy them to the remote server. The “Transfer” section at the bottom of the SSH window will display the progress of the file transfer.

9. When all your web files have been transferred to the remote location, activity in the “Transfer” section will finish, and status of all files will indicate “Complete.” The SSH File Transfer window will display your web page files in the right pane. (See Figure 5 above).

10. Disconnect from stargate.rutgers.edu by selecting “File” menu > “Disconnect.” At the “Confirm disconnect” dialog box, click “OK.”

11. Exit the SSH File Transfer program by selecting “File” menu > “Exit.”

12. Click “Yes” at the “Confirm File Save” menu to save any settings you modified.

13. Verify a successful upload by launching a web browser and accessing the web page you published.
