Adding and Linking to Anchors (Joomla! 2.5)

This procedure explains how to create anchor links within articles on web sites using the SAS Content Management System (CMS; Joomla! 1.5).  Anchor links allow to you link to specific text on a page.


  • Select an article to edit following steps 1-3 of Editing Articles (Joomla! 1.5)
  • Select some text near where the anchor should be placed.
  • Click the "Insert/Edit Anchor" button on the editing toolbar:

  • Type a name for the anchor.  Names for anchors cannot contain spaces, and must be unique within articles.
  • Click Insert.  You will see an anchor icon where you positioned the mouse cursor.
  • To create a link from somewhere within the same article:
    • Highlight the text that will be linked to the anchor.
    • Click the "Insert/Edit link" button on the editing toolbar:

    • Under "Attributes" at the bottom of the Link pop-up window, click the "Anchors" dropdown menu.
    • Select the anchor name you entered earlier.
    • Click Insert.
    • Save your article.
  • To create a link from another article:
    • Save the current article.
    • Copy the URL of the current article from the address bar.
    • Select the second article to edit following steps 1-3 of Editing Articles (Joomla! 1.5)
    • Highlight the text that should be linked to the anchor in the first article.
    • Click the "Insert/Edit link" button on the editing toolbar:

    • Paste the URL of the original article into the URL field of the Link pop-up window.
    • After the URL, type a pound sign (#) followed by the name of the anchor you entered earlier.
    • Click Insert.
    • Save your article.
